The Southern African Development Community (SADC) will use the 2026 International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group Annual Meetings to promote regional investment, economic resilience and industrialisation.

SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi will attend the meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, from 12 to 18 October.

The annual meetings bring together central bank governors, finance and development ministers, private sector executives and other stakeholders to discuss global economic prospects, financial stability, debt sustainability, development financing and inclusive growth.

Held under the theme “Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience”, this year’s meetings will also focus on climate resilience, digital transformation and job creation.

SADC said its secretariat would use the platform to highlight regional initiatives aimed at strengthening economic resilience, developing human capital, expanding financial inclusion and improving climate adaptation and disaster risk management.

The bloc will also seek to promote sustainable investment to support industrialisation and regional value chains across Southern Africa.

The meetings are expected to provide opportunities for bilateral engagements with the World Bank, strategic partners and other stakeholders to discuss regional and global economic developments, strengthen cooperation and mobilise resources for regional integration.
