Calling all entrepreneurs!
On 29 August 2025, Coastal High School held its annual Entrepreneurship Day, where Grade 9 learners took on the challenge of running their own mini-businesses.Armed with their pocket money, the learners carefully selected a range of products to sell, from homemade snacks to crafts. The excitement was palpable as they set up their stalls, eager to showcase their offerings to fellow learners and teachers. The day created a vibrant marketplace atmosphere, with colourful displays and the buzz of commerce filling the air.
In addition to selling products, many learners designed engaging games that encouraged participants to pay for the chance to win exciting prizes. From ring tossing and trivia challenges to eating competitions, these games not only entertained but also added an element of excitement to the day. The learners demonstrated creativity and resourcefulness, turning simple ideas into fun activities that drew crowds. The thrill of potentially winning prizes kept participants coming back for more.
As the day progressed, learners experienced the highs and lows of entrepreneurship. While some managed to turn a profit, others faced losses due to overestimating demand or miscalculating costs. However, each learner walked away with invaluable lessons about budgeting, marketing and the unpredictability of business.
The experience fostered resilience and adaptability, equipping them with skills that will serve them well in future endeavours.
