Welwitchia University has announced a major rebranding and academic expansion as part of its drive to meet Namibia’s changing education and workforce needs.
According to the university, the transformation marks “a bold move to align with Namibia’s evolving professional landscape. While we started as a health training centre, our growth and vision demanded a broader academic portfolio.”

The expansion introduces new programmes in administration, technology, commerce, law, and health sciences, reflecting the institution’s transition from a specialist college to a comprehensive university.

With campuses in Windhoek, Katima Mulilo, Ongwediva, Walvis Bay, Outapi, Nkurenkuru, Kombat, Mururani and elsewhere, the university says students across Namibia will now be able to study closer to home.

Among the highlights, the Faculty of Law, Commerce and Education will offer Certificates and Diplomas in Project and Supply Chain Management, as well as new Bachelor’s degrees in Computing and Information Systems, Project Management and Supply Chain Management. The faculty will also introduce a Postgraduate Diploma in Inclusive Education and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) specialising in Finance or Management.

Meanwhile, the Faculty of Health Sciences will launch a Master of Public Health programme, delivered through distance learning to allow students to balance studies with work or family commitments. The course offers specialisations in Maternal and Child Health, Public Health Nutrition, Mental Health and Well-being, Food Safety Management Systems, and Violence Prevention and Intervention.

Looking ahead, Welwitchia University plans further expansion, with infrastructure investments worth N$2 billion. The development includes new campuses in Swakopmund and Oranjemund, supporting the university’s long-term goal of making quality higher education accessible to all Namibians.
