Late night extravaganza

Susmitha Skakana
It’s that time of the year again, dear readers, where the judges travel far and wide to watch the performances of the participants while the participants themselves lose their minds because they couldn’t find their lipstick or shoes in time for the show! What is this dreadful event you might ask? Well, it is none other than the annual Mr and Miss Keetmanshoop Secondary School (KSS) pageant!
Although the dramatic intro was mostly for entertainment purposes, the night was truly one to remember, from the breathtaking attire and quick-witted answers the contestants gave to the mere fact that it was not only girls who took part, all thanks to the learners' representative council deciding to switch it up a little and give the boys a moment to shine as well.
The event began late afternoon, with payments made at the door either through tickets or cash. Once everyone was seated, the judges and contestants were introduced. The music accompanied by the introductions and mesmerising attire of the contestants kicked off a peculiar yet enjoyable night.
In between the pageant rounds were performances by our very own learners as well as local dance groups. They were able to keep the balance between entertainment and the underlying anxiety the audience felt due to the intense competition between the contestants.
It would be fitting to say that the pressure was truly getting 'worser'!
As the final round began, crippling anxiety consumed the hall. Even the contestants could feel it, yet their performance was top tier!
Even in that moment of unimaginable pressure and most likely a lot of stage fright, these contestants made a beautiful breakthrough.
Although the cold began to creep in at that point, no one moved a muscle as silence fell over the audience waiting for the winners to be announced... intense, right?
That silence was gone as quickly as it came when the hall was suddenly filled with high pitched screams of joy once the winners were announced.
William Bloodstaan and Iandre Losper took the spots of first prince and princess, followed by Ricardino Fortuin and Anna Jochem as second prince and princess. Meanwhile, Reginald |Goagoseb and Jody Josephs were crowned 2023 Mr and Miss KSS!
The pure joy on their faces was confirmation that the night was a true success and we owe it all to Mrs Josephs, the planner of this event. Each year has been a beautiful success, but I believe we can all agree that this year's show was truly a night of nights. Thank you Mrs J for blessing us with that splendour and to the contestants for giving it their best. Congratulations are in order!
It’s safe to say that the message for this year’s pageant is: ‘’Do not let your dreams remain dreams’’.
Well, that's all from me for now, dearest readers. Stay safe and stay blessed... Ciao!
