Namdia announces bursary recipients
Helping young Namibians further their studies
The bursaries are in keeping with the foundation's mission to improve Namibia's social and economic conditions by providing support in the areas of sport, health, and education.
The Namib Desert Diamonds (Namdia) Foundation has officially announced the first-ever recipients of the foundation's bursary. Bursaries were awarded to 14 deserving students from all regions out of the 300 applicants who applied. The Namdia bursary scheme was officially launched in line with the foundation's aim to contribute towards the alleviation of Namibia’s social and economic ills through a focus on education, health, and sport.
Namdia chief executive officer and foundation chairperson Alisa Amupolo stated that through the bursary scheme, the foundation will invest approximately N$2.8 million per year, which will amount to N$200 000 per year per student, to cover tuition fees, hostel accommodation, study material and a monthly stipend for any other expenses incurred.
"This is the first of what we would hope to be an annual programme, where we would take up more bursary recipients in the programme," said Amupolo.
Beneficiaries
The bursaries were awarded in the fields of mining engineering, geology, chemical engineering, medicine and surgery, civil engineering, agronomics, veterinary medicine, chartered accounting, and power engineering.
The final selection criteria for the bursary were 60% academic performance, 20% previously disadvantaged and/or from marginalised communities, 5% comprehensive, and 15% field of study.
