Namibia to host inaugural Aviation Week Africa
Namibia has been selected to host the inaugural Aviation Week Africa (AWA) 2026, a landmark three-day event dedicated to advancing the aviation sector across the continent.The media launch took place on 30 October 2025 at the Namibian Aviation Training Academy (NATA) at Eros Airport in the capital. The high-profile event brought together stakeholders, regulators, and industry leaders to celebrate both Zambia, where the initiative originated, and Namibia, the chosen host nation.
High Commissioner of the Republic of Zambia to Namibia Stephen Katuka was present at the event, where he underscored the importance of regional cooperation and enhanced connectivity in promoting Africa’s economic integration.
CEO of the Namibian Airports Company, Bisey Uirab, also addressed the gathering, emphasising the need to strengthen air connectivity across Africa and expressing Namibia’s readiness to host this leading industry event.
Toska Sem, Executive Director of the Namibian Civil Aviation Authority, highlighted key priorities for AWA 2026, including the promotion of aviation safety and greater participation of women in the aviation sector. She stressed the importance of inclusive growth to ensure a balanced and diverse future for African aviation.
Founder of Aviation Week Africa (AWA), Helen Ngwira Mwamba, described the launch as “the beginning of a journey connecting people, opportunities and dreams across Africa.”
The aviation sector, described as a dynamic and high-tech industry, offers a wide range of opportunities for the next generation of professionals. Aviation Week Africa 2026 aims to expose young people to the vast career possibilities within the field, extending far beyond the cockpit.
