Orban Primary dominates Khomas regional quiz
The Khomas Regional Council, under the Section of Professional Development, hosted the Khomas Regional Social Studies Quiz last week at the University of Namibia (UNAM) main campus.The event brought together senior primary learners from various schools in the Khomas Region to compete and showcase their knowledge of Namibia’s key subjects, namely history, geography, economy and social science.
Speaking at the event, the Director of Education, Eveline Benjamin, expressed appreciation to Prof Mosimane, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education and Human Sciences, and to UNAM for their invaluable collaboration. She noted that the event symbolised the shared vision between the Ministry of Education and UNAM, a vision rooted in national development and empowerment.
“Today’s milestone is not only a reflection of collective effort but also a testament to what can be achieved when institutions unite in purpose and passion to advance quality education in Namibia,” Benjamin said.
She emphasised that as the nation approaches the final stretch of Vision 2030, education continues to serve as a beacon of hope and opportunity, reminding all stakeholders that it remains the cornerstone of sustainable development, social transformation, and national prosperity.
Learners from across the region demonstrated exceptional understanding, confidence, and teamwork throughout the competition. After several rounds of challenging questions, the winners were announced in three categories - bronze, silver and gold - followed by the declaration of the overall top-achieving school.
Awards
The gold category was dominated by outstanding competitors: Firmino Johannes from Cimbebasia Primary School, Goodwill Tjipira from Moses van der Byl Primary School, Hilary Gowases from Orban Primary School, and Lesley-Ann //Hoebes, also from Orban Primary School.
The silver category saw strong performances from Kiyan Chikumbirike of Windhoek Central Private School, Upahi Tjilumbu of Christ Love Private School, Joseph Shikongo of the School of the Visually Impaired, and Wesley Rooi of Moses van der Byl Primary School.
In the bronze category, the winners were Adelheid Shithigona from Khomasdal Primary School, Elly Antsino from Augeikhas Primary School, Ipinge Kandenge from Mandume Primary School, and Ester Shiweda from Herman Gmeiner Primary School.
The highlight of the day was the announcement of Orban Primary School as the Overall Top-Achieving School for the 2025 Khomas Regional Social Studies Quiz. Their learners’ consistent excellence and teamwork earned them well-deserved recognition.
The event concluded with praise for all participants for their dedication and enthusiasm. Organisers reaffirmed their commitment to promoting initiatives that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and pride in Namibia’s cultural and historical heritage.
