The journey begins

Laying the foundation for Namibia’s future
Namibia's Triumphant College has taken its first steps toward a brighter future as it educates both students and teachers in the STEM field.

At the beginning of May, Triumphant College held a small innovation demonstration and a mini certificate ceremony at their Khomasdal campus. This came after their IT department collaborated with trainers from Ethiopia's STEM Power to hold a one-week seminar, filled with lectures and training focusing on computer technology and robotics.

During a demonstration, the students showed what they learned by presenting various engineering and computer science projects, such as a working robotic arm and even a self-created Artificial Intelligence(AI) programme.

The students showed not only a great understanding of the topics but also the skills to turn their ideas into reality. However, it was not only the students who had shown improvement, as the seminar was intended for students and teachers both.

Triumphant College aims to develop individuals using current technology, as well as being a leading university in technology and training.

In light of this, they decided to bring in experts capable of training not only students but also teachers, lecturers and technicians in the skills needed to equip them with the necessary knowledge.

“I came to share my experiences of the working world with the staff, the lab experts and the lecturers," Israel Gebru, an electromechanical engineer from STEM Power, said.
STEM Power is an international non-profit organisation working on fostering science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) across Sub-Saharan Africa.

STEM Power has established 140 STEM centres across more than 30 countries, with this being their second time in Namibia to conduct a week-long training seminar.

About the seminar, Petrus Puleni, deputy head of Triumphant College’s IT department, said that they believe that through this training, they can impart knowledge and skills to their students. "We do not doubt that our students will be the best as far as technology is concerned.”
