The voice of the soul
Delta Secondary School hosted its annual poetry evening, an event that gives Deltarians a chance to showcase their talents and feelings through poetry. The event took place on Friday, April 26th. Deltarians took the mic head-on, presenting heartwarming poems by poets like Lena Shitatala, Nelago Max and Alazinia Ihemba, just to mention a few. Additionally, we enjoyed special performances, including a guitar performance by Immanuel Gawaseb and a song by rising star Leora, who stunned the crowd with her magnificent voice. The initiative provided a platform to spread a love of poetry and expose poets to potential sponsors. The event was described as spectacular, showcasing an abundance of talent.
According to Epsan Shiwedha, one of the attendees, the event was well-planned, and the poems truly touched his heart as they addressed societal issues that need to be eradicated, such as rape, gender-based violence, and many more.
One of the poets, Zenda Figura, expressed pride in being part of the event and was particularly impressed by all the poems, especially 'You are mine as I am yours,' a duet by Belida Muya and Zion Nico-Wilson.
This event has become a tradition at Delta, providing a platform for youth to express themselves through poetry and address pressing issues such as gender inequality, love, crime and peer pressure.
