What started off as commission work for Samuel Amwele turned into a permanent and enjoyable work experience at the Old Mutual branch in Oshakati.
Initially, he worried that he would not have enough clients to earn an adequate income, but eventually proved himself capable of securing permanent employment.
Amwele knew he wanted to work in a financial business unit since he was young.
His good mathematical skills were an early indicator of his affinity for finance. After graduating with a degree in economics from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), he began his career with Old Mutual in 2017 and has since become a successful financial adviser.

Finding solutions
Amwele's job as a financial adviser has its challenges, but he has found that the benefits outweigh them. One of the most significant challenges he faces is dealing with difficult and impatient clients who have specific demands. However, Amwele has learned to remain patient, be willing to assist his clients, and refer those he cannot help to the appropriate persons. "This approach fosters trust with clients and builds long-term relationships," he said.
Amwele enjoys the flexibility and opportunity to assist and engage with people from different professions. He sees each encounter as an opportunity to learn something useful from them. This enhances his knowledge and experience as a financial adviser.
The pressure of meeting deadlines gets overwhelming for Amwele.
However, "I found that starting work earlier helps me overcome this challenge. I believe that proper time management is key to managing work overload towards deadlines," he said.

A heart for clients
Amwele's advice to Namibian youth is to be passionate about their dreams and career paths. He believes that the only way to do great work is to love what you do. He advises that "if you haven't found your passion yet, keep searching."
Amwele is patient, willing to assist his clients, and looks for opportunities to learn and grow. With passion and dedication to his job, he has grown to be successful while embracing his career.
