Green ventures: Cultivating Namibia's future through landscape design
A career aligned to a passion for nature
Zambo Mweti founded Bushveld Landscape Consulting in 2024, with the aim of crafting bespoke outdoor spaces into harmonious extensions of clients' homes.
Born and raised in Windhoek, Zambo Mweti’s passion for landscape design began with a deep appreciation of nature. After completing his Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC) Examinations in 2017 at Jan Möhr Secondary School in Windhoek, he pursued his passion for spatial sciences by studying landscape design, horticulture and advanced irrigation design at Lifestyle College in Johannesburg in 2023, earning a certificate in both courses.
This experience not only equipped him with advanced technical skills but also broadened his perspective on sustainable design practices.
Upon returning to Namibia in 2024, Mweti established his own garden design business, Bushveld Landscape Consulting.
The business is focusing on creating multi-functional spaces that blend ornamental plants with structural elements.
His designs are tailored to each client's preferences, aiming to transform outdoor areas into harmonious extensions of their homes. Since his return, he has successfully designed and installed five garden projects and is actively involved in the development of an aquacultural project with a key stakeholder.
Diverse inspiration
Mweti's typical workday is characterised by a calm and flexible environment.
His studio features multiple drawing boards at various stages of conceptualisation, accompanied by soothing music and the essential tools of his trade.
He often seeks inspiration beyond the confines of his office, sketching in places like Zoo Park or his home garden, embracing the belief that creativity thrives in diverse settings.
Influenced by renowned figures such as André Le Nôtre, the mastermind behind the Gardens of Versailles, and British horticulturist Monty Don, Mweti draws inspiration from their dedication to the art of landscape design. He believes that true inspiration stems from anything that ignites a spark within, be it formal gardens or functional urban spaces.
Mweti aspires to establish a training institute dedicated to landscape design and horticulture in Namibia.
He envisions it as a platform to diversify technical training offerings and to illuminate the intersection where architecture, construction, mathematics and art converge. His message to aspiring individuals is clear: "Life's journey is non-linear, filled with challenges that shape character. Embrace mistakes, forgive yourself, and continue striving to make oneself proud."
