Kapofi appointed interim industries, mines and energy minister
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Tuesday announced the appointment of defence and veterans affairs minister Frans Kapofi to the industries, mines and energy ministry on an interim basis. The announcement follows the President’s decision to relieve former industries minister Natangwe Ithete of his duties with immediate effect over the weekend.
Kapofi will now temporarily manage both portfolios and oversee a ministry that remains central to Namibia’s industrialisation, mining and energy transformation.
Nandi-Ndaitwah had at first assumed responsibility for the ministry to ensure stability and uninterrupted service delivery following her decision to relieve Ithete of his duties.
By appointing Kapofi to oversee the ministry on an interim basis, the president ensures continued leadership while allowing for the orderly identification and appointment of a suitable permanent candidate in due course, the Presidency said in a statement.
The Presidency emphasised that this measure reflects the president's commitment to stability, continuity and constitutional governance, ensuring that all sectors of government remain focused on delivering for the Namibian people. It also demonstrates the administration’s dedication to discipline, urgency and accountability, in line with the guiding principles of the administration and the priorities outlined under the sixth national development plan (NDP6).
The president expressed full confidence in Kapofi’s ability to steer the ministry with diligence and integrity, maintaining momentum on key initiatives that are essential to the country’s economic development and energy transformation.
