Richard Botha, the executive director of Network Data Hub (NDH), has been pivotal in transforming Namibia's media ecosystem.
He led the establishment of Namibia’s first digital television station, Network Television (NTV), and the creation of oneuptwo.com, an online TV platform.
“These were not just technical projects. They were full ecosystem builds requiring vision, infrastructure development and a strong understanding of both content and financial sustainability,” Botha says.
Today both platforms deliver content to audiences across Namibia and set benchmarks for digital innovation in the local media space.
Botha identifies the launch of NTV as one of the most defining moments of his career. As the executive, he coordinated multiple teams, solved unique challenges and developed systems where no local blueprint existed.
“Seeing it come to life from concept to a fully operational digital TV station proved that with the right drive and collaboration it is possible to build something entirely new for the country,” he said.

Growth and experimentation
Describing his approach as ED, Botha says: “I give my team the space and freedom to do their work in the way that suits them best. My role is to remove obstacles, provide clarity and step in when guidance is needed.”
His team can rely on him to solve challenges quickly and calmly. He creates an environment where staff feel confident, supported and empowered to make decisions.
Beyond his management style and technical accomplishments, Botha uses his position to mentor and create opportunities for young media professionals.
“I want young professionals to feel free to experiment, make mistakes, push boundaries and solve problems creatively,” he said.
He hopes the systems, workflows and thinking implemented today will allow the next generation to move faster, tell better stories and reach wider audiences.

Into the future
Botha’s career has been shaped by a lifelong interest in storytelling, technology and audience engagement as well as by supportive mentors and challenging projects. He credits his wife for providing stability and encouragement, helping him take on bigger professional challenges.
Looking towards the future, Botha hopes his legacy as ED will be one of practical innovation. “I want to leave behind platforms, systems and opportunities that did not exist before, showing that Namibia can build technology, content systems and data-driven platforms that are as strong as anything in larger markets,” he says.
