Artificial pitch for rugby field

Windhoek Gymnasium Private School this year installed a synthetic rugby field at the school.

The management of the school, which is part of the Curro Group of Schools, took the plunge to install this field to combat the current water crisis.

“This is obviously a big expense for the school but we ultimately view it as an investment. Although the current water crisis in Windhoek initiated this move, the switch to artificial grass makes sense for so many other reasons,” said Colette Rieckert, managing director of Windhoek Gymnasium.

The new field will not only be used to better rugby at the school, but will help with the development of the sport on different levels.

“It is a privilege to play on such a field. We will be making it available for the development of the sport of rugby, as well as to outside teams,” said Colette.

Synthetic turf has been accepted worldwide in different sports codes. The Rugby League and Rugby Union have also come to embrace this change. The field was manufactured by the Rhino brand.

The field will help the school save on water and will have lower maintenance than natural grass. Players will also have an easy time playing on the field, as it was created to support them and the pitch can be used a lot without succumbing to weather damage.

As the turf reaches the end of its lifetime, it can be fully recycled. The turf has been approved by World Rugby.
