Check water meters

Barry De Klerk
Barry de Klerk - The City of Windhoek has been warning residents that leaky pipes, taps and water meters will not only cost everyone more, but could also result in water being cut off.
Residents are urged to check their water meters regularly - on a weekly basis if possible - to evaluate their water usage. This will also help them reduce water consumption and identify water leaks at their houses.
It is easy for anyone to check their meters by reading the meter numbers and writing it down. Do not use water during the water reading test.
This test should be done for at least six consecutive hours. It will work better if it is during the night or when no one is home. If there is no change in the meter numbers, there is no leak. If you do spot a change in the numbers, try to find the leak. Once the leak is identified a plumber can be brought in to fix the problem.
