Have fun at the Dirt Farm
On 13 September the SKW Off-road RC Club (SKWRCC) officially inaugurated their all-new raceway. The club, originating from 2004, decided to upgrade the raceway to adapt to the new international standards of the sport. A total of nine weeks and many hours of hard work paid off with a record amount of entries and spectators for the day.
The track, estimated at about 430 metres, caters for all aspects of the sport. A well-balanced mix of fast straights, big jumps, rhythm jumps and tricky corners forces drivers to properly set up their vehicles for racing. “A true driver’s track”, as one of the competitors called it.
Jaco Kotze officially cut the ribbon on behalf of M&Z Motors, as one of the main sponsors. Thereafter a new national championship was announced for the 2015 season. A total of 11 events are planned for next year of which six will count for the Nationals. Two public open days are also scheduled to promote the sport and assist people interested in the sport.
The grand opening saw four classes competing, namely Nitro Truggy, Nitro Buggy, Monster Trucks and electrical models.
A total of 12 Nitro Truggies entered and at the end of the day it was Karl-Heinz Eisenberg in first, Ralf Klein in 2nd and Cedric Brand clinched the 3rd spot.
The Buggy section was jam-packed with seven entries for the day. Guido Koch snatched 1st place, with Norbert Piehl in second and Stan Godfrey in third.
With six Monster Trucks in play, the action was on from the word go! Once again Karl-Heinz Eisenberg clinched the first place, whilst first-timer Radimar Karsten came second and Ekko Eisenberg landed a third overall for the day.
Four very fast electrical models chased each other around the new raceway. In the end it was Guido Koch as winner, Cedric Brand in second and another newcomer, Ruan Viviers, in third place.
Many new participants entered for the event, but it was the return of the “old-timers” like Norbert Piehl, Guther Klein and Pierre Gous that indicated that the club is heading in the right direction. The next event will take place on 4 October. Entry to these events is free of charge, thus the club extends an open invitation to everyone to come and join in the fun!
