Learners taught to show respect
Character Transformation Namibia has recently launched an exciting programme at WHS in the city educating teachers and children about character. The first of six pillars built at the school were painted and “launched” by gr. 10 learners at a special ceremony. Every week another pillar will be painted and named according to the six pillars of character as per the programme.
The programme will teach teachers and scholars about trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. In the process children accept responsibility for making a change in their school and community and the school itself does something regarding the pillars of character. Some schools plant actual pillars whilst other will paint existing pillars at the school. In doing this, the school visibly shows their commitment to making a change.
Character Transformation will do follow-up visits to the school on a five weekly basis (or as arranged by the school) to assist schools with the implementation of the programme as well as to do assessments as to the success at school level. The visits will coincide with the start of the implementation of the next pillar (value).
Character Transformation is a nonprofit organization that transcends cultural differences. It is not a curriculum, add-on, out-of-the-box programme or a quick-fix fad, but character education.
Their goal for is to train four schools (teachers and other staff and LRC's) per month all over the country.
