Woman power in Harambia

Barry De Klerk
What is it like when a woman becomes president of an African country?

Madam President presented by Township Productions at the College of the Arts Theatre School next week, takes a look at how the world views female African presidents and how such a presidency would play out.

The play is set in the fictitious country of Harambia and explores the effect power has on the minds of political leaders, whether they are men or women.

Lucy, the head master at a local school, decides to run for the highest office in her country. Her choice is not well received by her husband, Daniel, bringing about a dramatic turn of events.

Madam President was written by award-winning Zambian writer, arts activist and playwright John Katebe. Locally produced by David Njdavera and directed by Keamogetsi Joseph Molapong, the play features Nelago Shilongoh and Denzel NSK Naobed in the lead roles.

The show takes place on 2, 3 and 4 August at 19:00. Tickets cost N$80. Info: 081 393 1946.
