First National Bank (FNB) Namibia has supported the Omake Charity Organisation’s annual volleyball event with a N$130 800 donation.

The funding will go towards the planning, logistics and hosting of the tournament, which is scheduled for 28 March at Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo.

The handover ceremony took place at Gtwenty Restaurant in Otjiwarongo, where it was highlighted that the volleyball fun day aims to raise funds for a soup kitchen and counselling office in the town.

The partnership between the corporate sector and the community organisation seeks to use sport as a platform to support social development initiatives.

Speaking at the handover, FNB Namibia’s coastal and central north area manager, Joram Kahono, said the bank is committed to supporting projects that promote community growth, particularly through sport.

“At FNB Namibia, we strongly believe in the uniting power of sport. [It] connects people and teaches valuable lessons such as teamwork, perseverance, discipline and respect. These are values that help build strong and healthy communities,” he said.

Helping the vulnerable

The eight-year-old organisation, Omake Charity, was founded in 2018 and primarily relies on sponsorships, donors and volunteers.

Its work focuses on creating lasting impact by supporting vulnerable individuals and helping them integrate into society.

Organisation chairperson Eddy Kgobetsi said the funds raised from the tournament will support the organisation’s immediate community projects.

“Funds from the Volleyball Fun Day will help us address the immediate needs of the less privileged in our community,” he said.

Teams from different parts of the country, including Otjiwarongo, Okakarara, Outjo, Otavi, Grootfontein, Tsumeb and Khorixas, are expected to take part, with invitations extended to additional teams nationwide.

Tournament prizes

Registration is N$1 500 per team, with the tournament champions set to receive a floating trophy, gold medals and N$10 000.

Second place will receive silver medals and N$7 000, while third place will earn bronze medals and N$4 000.

Kgobetsi also invited the public to support the initiative by attending the event. Entrance fees are N$20 for adults, N$10 for children and N$10 per vehicle.

The event will feature refreshments, live entertainment from DJs and activities for children.

Businesses and organisations have also been encouraged to support the initiative and be part of efforts to uplift the community.
