Kalahari Ferrari feels at home in Namibia
International motorsport star Ross Branch has described Namibia as his “second home” as he continues preparations for upcoming international competitions in Walvis Bay.
The Botswana-born rider, an eight-time Dakar Rally competitor, is currently at the coast for an intensive 10-day training and motorcycle testing camp. Known as the “Kalahari Ferrari”, Branch is widely regarded as one of the fastest off-road racers in the world.
Speaking to Namib Times during a recent motorsport appearance, Branch highlighted the physical and mental demands of the Dakar Rally, often considered one of the toughest events in global motorsport.
“It’s an amazing race that tests you mentally and physically,” he said. “With long stages, early mornings and late nights, it really pushes the body to the limit.”
Branch emphasised the role Namibia has played in his journey, crediting the country’s terrain for helping shape his success.
“Namibia is like my second home,” he said. “This is where my career really kicked off, and I continue to do all my training here. The dunes and landscapes make it the perfect environment.”
Looking ahead, Branch is preparing for the next round of the world championship in Argentina, while also setting his sights on a return to Namibia for the African Motocross Championship. After winning the Motocross of African Nations in Zimbabwe last year, he is eager to defend his title.
He also expressed gratitude for the strong support he continues to receive from Namibian fans.
“Through the ups and downs, the support here has always been incredible,” he said.
