The Namibia Beach Volleyball Hub yesterday strengthened grassroots development efforts by donating seven volleyball nets to Afrocat Sports Club’s volleyball section.

The equipment will support the club’s nationwide outreach programme, which currently includes sports camps in volleyball, netball and football.

Through coaching clinics, community training sessions and tournaments, Afrocat’s qualified coaches introduce basic skills to aspiring athletes while also identifying emerging talent.

The outreach programme kicked off in Keetmanshoop two weekends ago and is scheduled to run until October across several regions, including Erongo, Omusati, Kavango, Otjozondjupa, ||Kharas, Hardap and Zambezi.

Development focus

In a statement issued yesterday, the club welcomed the donation, describing it as a significant step in strengthening volleyball development structures.

“The donated nets will be utilised across various regions to expand access to both beach and indoor volleyball training, tournaments and clinics. We focus on beach and indoor volleyball, as well as unified sports in both disciplines,” the statement read.

Afrocat also confirmed that its next outreach, originally scheduled for this weekend in Grootfontein, has been postponed to 26 to 28 February.

“The adjustment was made due to the first leg of the Zone Six Beach Volleyball Tour, which Namibia is hosting in Windhoek. We want to ensure alignment with national volleyball activities,” the club said.

The club is actively seeking further support for its training camps, particularly in accommodation, transport and equipment. It has also called for government involvement to align its initiatives with national and regional sport development strategies.
