Alvara flies flag high at Inclusive Africa Conference in Nairobi
Namibia’s celebrated disability advocate and multi-talented artist, Alvarita Benedito Lucungo, known professionally as Alvara, departed for Nairobi, Kenya on Monday to represent the country at the Inclusive Africa Conference 2025, taking place from 3 to 5 June.Alvara, who was born with congenital glaucoma and is visually impaired, has emerged as a powerful voice for persons with disabilities through her music and advocacy. Her participation at the conference marks a significant moment for Namibian representation on the continental stage.
With a career that blends R&B, Soul and Afropop, Alvara has used her artistry to address social justice, healing, and empowerment, particularly for persons with disabilities and African youth. Her latest single, “See Us”, will debut at the conference and was written specifically for the occasion. The track calls for visibility, dignity and representation, aligning with the conference's core mission of inclusive digital and socio-economic progress.
Beyond music, Alvara holds a qualification in Community Counselling, with aspirations to deepen her impact through further work in mental health and community upliftment.
National milestone
The Inclusive Africa Conference, organised by inABLE Africa, is the continent’s leading platform dedicated to digital accessibility and disability inclusion. This year, Alvara will serve not only as a featured performer but also as a conference speaker and Ambassador for the Face of Africa initiative.
In her plenary session, “Youths in the Creative Economy - Gaps and Opportunities”, Alvara will shed light on the challenges faced by young creatives, particularly those living with disabilities. Her presentation will focus on actionable pathways for inclusive innovation in Africa’s creative industries.
Accompanying Alvara is Simalumba Nawa, founder and chief executive of The Blindspot Communication and Consultants. A respected motivational speaker, author and strategist, Nawa is known for his pioneering approach to disability as a source of leadership and entrepreneurial strength. His presence reinforces Namibia’s growing reputation for progressive advocacy in the disability space.
Alvara and Nawa’s participation in the conference highlights Namibia’s commitment to inclusion, empowerment and creative excellence. Their involvement is expected to strengthen regional collaborations and inspire further investment in youth and disability-led innovation.
