Despite frigid conditions, at the end of 2021 - during the Covid-19 pandemic - Charlie Kooiman walked continuously through five towns in the Netherlands for 24 hours to collect money for N/a'an ku sê's anti-poaching unit.She had previously worked for N/a'an ku sê and when she was stranded in the Netherlands during the pandemic, she wanted to do something for the unit's members, all of whom she knew personally. In this way she collected N$110 000 for new clothes and training for them.
"In the meantime, a lot has happened and when I finally got my study visa, I moved from Windhoek to start my flight training at the Swakopmund Flying School," she said.
Charlie, who already loved Namibia, fell in love with Swakopmund and quickly realised that this coastal town would be her permanent home in Namibia.
"Along with my passion for wildlife, nature conservation and aviation, I am passionate about tourism and hospitality. So last year I made my next dream a reality and bought a house in Kramersdorf in Swakopmund. With an incredible team of people, we transformed it into a peaceful, cozy guesthouse, which opened its doors at the end of 2023," she said.
Charlie has made it her mission to only work with Namibians and local businesses.

Charlie's Guesthouse has four double rooms and two family rooms. All the rooms have an en-suite bathroom and a private or semi-private veranda. They can accommodate a total of 16 guests.
