Dylan at your service
In Germany, you get the “Yellow Angels”, as the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club (ADAC or AA) is popularly known; in Namibia, it’s Dylan Rosenthal. The 25-year-old, who, as he says himself, “always wanted to help people”, set up his own business in January last year to bring assistance to those in vehicular distress along the roadside. His company, Jumpstart Guy and Road Assistance, is there to help, whether it’s an empty tank, a flat tyre, battery failure or other minor repairs, offering customer assistance at the “emergency call point”.
While his main area of business is Windhoek and the surrounding area, Rosenthal’s service is not just limited to the capital. Although he has been operating as a one-man show until now, the Windhoeker can help, not only in terms of price but also to arrange solutions for people stranded across the country through his network of contacts in the tyre service industry and battery distributors. He also has established contact with reliable towing services.
If there’s one piece of advice Rosenthal would like to share, it’s that “in the event of a breakdown, drive as far away from the road as possible so that you don’t endanger yourself or other road users. If you can't get off the road far enough, get out of your car. You don't stand a chance if a driver loses control.”
