O&L marks 100th O&L World Session

Sixteen years of empowering people and purpose
The Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group recently celebrated a proud milestone: the 100th session of its signature leadership and empowerment programme, O&L World.
The celebration took place at Midgard Otjihavera, a boutique farm lodge operated by O&L Leisure.
Launched in 2009, O&L World was created as a platform to connect and inspire employees through shared purpose, leadership development, and personal growth. What began as a vision by O&L Executive Chairman Sven Thieme has grown into a transformational four-day experience attended by every permanent employee across the Group.
“True leadership is not about titles or roles; it’s about inspiring others, making a difference, and unlocking potential,” said Thieme, who has personally attended every session since the programme’s inception.
“When we say O&L is ONE, we mean it. From the boardroom to the factory floor, we all have the ability to lead and shape the future.”
Each O&L World session includes immersive leadership development activities, deep cultural engagement, and practical tools for empowerment. But for many employees, it’s also a personal milestone, some experience their first hotel stay or fine dining during the programme.
Global inspiration
“You can see the difference in people. Many arrive shy and reserved, but leave with a sparkle in their eyes and a stronger sense of who they are,” Thieme added.
The idea behind O&L World is grounded in both global inspiration and neuroscience. Much like successful companies such as Google, Netflix, and Southwest Airlines, O&L believes that empowering people drives innovation, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement. Research backs this up. When people feel trusted, involved, and in control of their work, it activates powerful brain responses linked to motivation, creativity, and fulfilment.
“Empowerment isn’t about giving orders; it’s about giving people space to thrive,” said Thieme. “It requires trust, commitment, and a belief in the potential of every individual.”
A key element introduced in recent years is the O&L Persona, a model that captures the spirit of the company’s people: How they show up, engage with others, and contribute to the O&L brand and vision. This Persona underpins O&L’s Vision 2029 and continues to guide the group’s journey of growth and impact.
