The great African adventure
Independent YouTube vlogger, intuitive artist, and singer-songwriter Chris Wait has embarked on an initiative under the banner “The Great African Adventure”.It is an inspiring journey through Africa to explore, document, and promote the continent’s communities, towns, and cultures along the way.
Through the power of stories, music, visual art, and media creation, he aims to draw attention to the beauty and resilience of local communities that often go unnoticed.
Through vlogs, documentary photography, music, spoken word poetry, and original artwork created during the journey, each destination becomes part of a collective purpose of shared humanity and creative expression.
“I am an advocate for Africa and the people of this continent. It is a beautiful and unique place with a kind of freedom and natural beauty that you don’t find anywhere else.
Beyond race, past heritage and those superficial things, I identify as an Afrikaner, but also as an African. I am definitely not a European. Africa is where I belong.”
Featuring original songs in both English and Afrikaans, as well as handpicked favourites from well-known tracks, Chris brings acoustic music experiences to audiences in both intimate and public spaces.
Spoken word performances and spontaneous art exhibitions add further depth to the journey, providing cultural enrichment and personal connection with locals and fellow travellers.
Chris also provides professional media and promotional video services such as drone photography and video clips for online marketing. He also offers media content and artwork in exchange for accommodation.
Chris carries watercolour and mixed media supplies with him on his journey and aims to create artwork inspired by the places and people he visits.
“I am passionate about uplifting communities through creativity.
Every place has a story, and I want to help tell it through songs, vlogs, photography, poetry, and painting,” says Chris.
He currently travels on a shoestring budget and welcomes any form of collaboration – musical performances, creative exchanges, local jobs, and partnerships with businesses, tourism bodies, and community organisations.
Chris is also creating a television series based on his vlogs for Cape Town TV. The first series will be launched in August this year.
