Security personnel join forces to curb crime in Osona

Security personnel residing in Osona, including soldiers, police officers and correctional service officers, were mobilised to support police operations through the Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) programme while acting in their private capacity as citizens. The initiative was carried out in accordance with Sections 42 and 47 of the Criminal Law Procedures Act 51 of 1977, which grant certain legal powers to private individuals in assisting law enforcement.
The management of the Okahandja Police Station also appealed to members of the security cluster living in Osona to take an active role in protecting their community by making the area a no-go zone for criminal activities, especially drug dealing. This call was motivated by the high number of trained security personnel residing in the village, which places Osona in a strong position to deter crime.
The operation, which took place on Saturday, saw increased visibility and cooperation among residents and law enforcement. Authorities described the initiative as a positive step toward strengthening community safety and reinforcing the message that criminal behaviour will not be tolerated in Osona.
