It is almost time for the annual Tourism Expo which takes place from 24 to 26 April and once again, the event provides exciting experiences for young and old.
One of the highlights this year, is the team from the Africa Millimetre Telescope (AMT) will entertain pupils and adults and take them through the stars in a mobile planetarium.
According to the organiser of this expo project, Yolanda Nel from Network Television (NTV), this is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about astronomy.
"I've been to the planetarium a few times myself and it's amazing to see how small the earth is in the universe."
School groups have already been invited to take advantage of the event and adults can buy tickets to be part of the experience themselves.
More than 13 000 people have already visited the mobile planetarium, of which more than 10 000 are pupils.
According to Zandre Duvenhage from AMT, this is a wonderful experience for everyone, but especially children.
The planetarium was donated to the University of Namibia (Unam) in 2022 and the aim of the project is to stimulate young people's interest in science.
Earlier this year, the AMT team received the Annie Maunder Medal for Outreach from the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) for the work carried out with the planetarium.
The AMT project aims to establish the first millimetre telescope in Africa. This telescope will be set up at Gamsberg as part of the Event Horizon telescope network, which captured an image of a black hole in 2019.
Tickets for the planetarium can be bought via etickets.my.na for a specific time slot; however, you'll have to hurry, since space in the planetarium is limited.
