WIKA celebrates 70 years

Frank Steffen
The carnival season in Namibia officially kicked off with the Witvlei carnival last weekend and now one carnival follows the other. Next up on the calendar, is the Windhoek Carnival (WIKA), themed “Applause, applause – full speed ahead” this year, kicking off with the Royal Ball on Thursday, 4 April. On Friday, 5 April, the O&L ceremonial session continues and on Saturday morning the popular street parade through the city centre follows ahead of the NBL-WIKA beer festival takes at the SKW from lunchtime. The children's carnival, or KiKaWi, takes place on Sunday, 7 April. As is the norm, entertainment is at the forefront, with the Happy Sound Orchestra from Germany as guest performers, along with the ever-popular Peter Wackel. Other guests are the traditional orchestra from Cologne, the Höhner.
