Big smiles at HappyLand Safe Haven
The Capricorn Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children through its ongoing partnership with HappyLand Safe Haven, an orphanage in Henties Bay.The foundation recently donated N$397 000 to fund renovations to the kitchen and girls’ room, as well as to cover daily needs and school expenses.
Founded in 2009, HappyLand provides food, shelter, education and emotional care to children aged between 0 and 18, including those with disabilities and from diverse backgrounds. Since 2023, the Capricorn Foundation has supported the home with daily necessities, school supplies and renovations, contributing more than N$800 000 to date.
“During our visit in February 2024, we noticed the urgent need for a stronger and more permanent structure,” said Veripura Muukua, Head of the Capricorn Foundation. “Starting in June 2024, we began contributing to a permanent building in phases. Last year, we funded the boys’ room, and in July 2025, we committed funds for the girls’ room and the kitchen, with technical support from NamiBou.”
Muukua said the renovations were crucial, as the previous structures were made from hardboard and exposed the children to harsh weather. “As Connectors of Positive Change, we’re proud that our support now extends beyond daily needs and meals to providing safe, proper shelter - a basic necessity for every child,” she said.
HappyLand founder Carmen Haoses thanked the foundation for its long-term support. “Your ongoing commitment has helped us build safe, beautiful rooms for the children, provide nutritious meals, pay school fees and ensure they have everything they need to attend school. The children are constantly reminded and inspired to become the best versions of themselves,” Haoses said.
