Community hero fights hunger

In the heart of Dolam, Katutura, a small but impactful initiative is quietly making big changes. The Playhouse Kindergarten and Soup Kitchen, run by 28-year-old Denzel Awoseb, addresses the pressing issue of hunger among children and the elderly.
Born out of a deep sense of compassion and desire to help his community, Awoseb's soup kitchen has become a lifeline for many residents affected by food insecurity.
The genesis of this venture stems from Awoseb recognising the nutritional gap in his community. Motivated by the plight of those suffering from hunger, he set out to provide nutritious meals to those in need. “With our soup kitchen we want to alleviate this problem by providing warm, nutritious meals for children and the elderly from Monday to Thursday at 15:00,” said Awoseb.
The soup kitchen has been in operation since February last year and has steadily grown in reach and impact.
Despite financial constraints, Awoseb, along with his maternal aunt and her partner who run the kindergarten, have maintained their commitment to the cause. “My godfather is a big supporter of this vision and always has been,” said Awoseb. “However, to sustain this initiative we need more support as the number of people we serve continues to grow. We are currently feeding 163 people in the Dolam community through the soup kitchen.”
