Help4Nam fun walk & run this Saturday

The charity organisation Help4Nam hosts a fun walk and family fun day on Saturday. The event is expected to attract families, entrepreneurs and talent from all over Windhoek and nearby towns to participate.
The day kicks off with a 5km fun walk starting at the Funky Town Mall at 07:00. Led by drum majorettes from St Andrews Primary School, walkers will move together as a group with marshals indicating the route and ensuring safety. There will be fun ‘pit stops’ offering refreshments and water along the way, and participants are then invited to attend the fun day afterwards, which will be held on the sports field at Suburbs Park, home to the Western Suburbs Rugby Club.
At the fun day, participation medals will be handed out to the first 300 tickets sold as a unique keepsake to commemorate the day.
The fundraiser aims to raise funds for the charity’s projects and activities, help them establish a food bank to continue operating from, raise awareness about the work they do and the impact that it has and to provide a fun family family-friendly platform for communities to connect.
While it is a dry event with no alcohol available, there will be lots of food, braai and soft drinks available. There are lots of fun activities planned for the day, suitable for all ages to enjoy. Activities include games such as hook the duck, buzz the wire, tombola, face painting, jumping castles and craft activities to keep the children busy.
Live performances, a DJ and MC will keep everyone entertained with games like Bingo, Scratch to Win and a colouring competition, offering opportunities for great prizes to be won. With Mother’s Day on Sunday, visitors can shop for some gift hampers and pre-loved clothes from the thrift stalls.
Teaching moment
“The event is not only about fun and family, but an opportunity to teach our children by example about the importance of community involvement to support a worthy cause,” says Help4Nam founder, Stephanie Collins. “To help combat food insecurity, which is a major problem for too many children and their families in Namibia, we invite the public to join us in their numbers for the day so we can make a bigger impact and reach more families in their time of need.”
“Hunger knows no borders and is a challenge in both high- and low-income nations. I believe that there will always be a need for food bank services such as ours for different people at different times in their lives when they struggle to feed the children, have to skip meals and go to bed hungry due to little or no income, changes in personal circumstances or socio-economic situations beyond their control. Help4Nam would like to continue to be that beacon of hope to such families in the communities that we serve,” Collins said.
