Hope rises again in Goreangab

In the next few months, a house of hope will be built in one of the poorest areas of Windhoek, a space where around 1 200 children will receive a meal every day and can play and learn in a safe environment.
The official groundbreaking ceremony on 20 October was led by the founder of the Namibian charity Home of Good Hope, Monica Imanga, and the CEO of Discover Airlines, Bernd Bauer, who is now involved with the organisation and is a generous supporter.
Home of Good Hope has been working tirelessly since 2007 to help children and young people in particularly disadvantaged settlements without permanent housing or stable family structures.
With a soup kitchen and opportunities for education and psychosocial care, the dedicated team of Home of Good Hope reaches hundreds of children who would otherwise have no access to basic services.
The relationship between Discover Airlines and Home of Good Hope was formed in 2021 as part of a Christmas project launched by employees of the airline.
Since then, the airline has continued to be involved with Home of Good Hope in various ways through fundraising, as well as on-site volunteer work.
In 2022, Home of Good Hope was also officially added to the project portfolio of help alliance, the Lufthansa Group’s aid organisation.
Thanks to a huge boost of 100 000 euros, the long-awaited construction project of the new facilities can finally begin.
“The support we have received from Discover Airlines and help alliance over the past few years goes far beyond material assistance, it comes from the heart,” says Imanga. “What started as a chance meeting has developed into a close friendship and we are deeply grateful for the trust placed in our work.
“Being part of the help alliance support programme is a huge step for us as a small organisation and a clear sign that our children have not been forgotten,” she said.
Home of Good Hope is a non-profit organisation located in Goreangab and supports over 800 vulnerable children with nutrition, pre-school education, after-care and homework. Parents also receive medical and nutrition-related assistance and the opportunity to improve their job prospects through an adult education programme. – [email protected]
