Keeping E.M.A.’s wheels turning

International support fuels emergency care
The Emergency Medical Assistance (E.M.A.), a registered non-profit organisation, continues to live up to its slogan “There When You Need Us” – a commitment they have upheld since 2019. In 2025 alone, E.M.A. has already provided assistance valued at more than N$400 000 to patients in need across Namibia.
Relying entirely on public and corporate donations, E.M.A. delivers critical emergency services to the community. In 2023, international support gave the organisation a significant boost when Dirk Pfeiffer of ITLS Germany visited Namibia and witnessed the organisation’s work firsthand. Moved by what he saw, Pfeiffer appealed to his network in Germany and Austria for support.
His call was quickly answered. Klaus Meyer, chairman of the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft Notfallmedizin Fürth e.V. (AGNF)”, stepped forward with the donation of a state-of-the-art ventilator for emergency patients valued at over N$60 000. This contribution paved the way for further donations from both organisations and private individuals abroad.
At a recent handover event at E.M.A.’s main emergency base in Windhoek West, Fabian Martens, chairman of E.M.A., expressed gratitude for the international support. “Access to emergency and rescue services is essential for public health,” Martens stated. “These generous donations help us maintain a high standard of emergency and medical services for the Namibian public.”
The equipment was immediately deployed to ambulances and emergency vehicles, strengthening E.M.A.’s capacity to respond swiftly to calls for help.
Pfeiffer, who helped coordinate the donations, described the initiative as an honour and pledged to continue rallying support for the cause. “It is a great honour to organise these donations for the benefit of E.M.A. and the Namibian public,” he said during the handover.
The demand for E.M.A.’s services has seen a marked rise, especially since 2023. This surge has increased the organisation’s operational costs, particularly in fuel and maintenance, underscoring the need for continued financial support.
“With the rising cost of providing emergency services, we appeal to individuals and businesses to support us through fuel sponsorships or financial donations,” Martens urged. “Sponsorships are vital, not just for us as an organisation, but for the patients who rely on us during emergencies.”
Thanks to partnerships like those with AGNF and committed individuals such as Pfeiffer, many residents of Windhoek benefit from timely, high-quality emergency care. For more information, visit www.ema-organisation.pro
