Mini facelift for Senior Park

The WeCare Foundation has received financial support of more than N$460 000 from the German Embassy in Windhoek to carry out urgently needed renovations at the Senior Park retirement home.
Last Friday, German Ambassador Thorsten Hutter hosted a ceremonial signing of the grant agreement with WeCare Foundation representatives Aletta Hough and Suzette Williams, alongside residents of the state-owned retirement home.
The flats at Senior Park, which have not undergone proper renovation since 1982, are now in a severely dilapidated condition. Almost all the roofs are leaking, with significant damage identified in 66 units, including mould infestation and broken roof tiles.
The German funding will go towards sealing the roofs of these 66 units, repairing structural damage, and replacing damaged ceiling panels. The improvements aim to eliminate health risks caused by damp and mould, reduce safety hazards from falling tiles, and better protect residents’ property from water damage.
The WeCare Foundation, which has supported Senior Park for the past 18 months, works to ensure residents enjoy a dignified standard of living. The foundation provides weekly meals, organises leisure activities, offers medical support, and assists with essential maintenance such as gardening, repainting and replacing hot water geysers.
