Palliative Care Namibia's palliative care unit - the first of its kind in Namibia - was christened House Zietsman on Friday, honouring the work of oncologist Dr Anelle Zietsman, who has been providing cancer care to patients at the Dr AB May Cancer Care Centre in the capital.
"When I started at the Cancer Association, I knew next to nothing. Everything I know now, I learned from you," the chief executive of the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN), Rolf Hansen, said at the opening of the unit.
Hansen said that providing palliative care is the last of the goals he set himself when he took over the CAN reins.
The unit cost CAN approximately N$10 million to set up and aims to provide palliative care to Namibians from all corners of the country.
