Purpose for Paws at SPCA
The Capricorn Group and K9 Academy Namibia last Friday united for a day filled with compassion, teamwork and tail wags at the SPCA in Windhoek. Their joint outreach, aptly named ‘Purpose for Paws’, was an initiative focused on giving back – not just to the community, but to the animals who need it most. The event was part of Capricorn Group’s ChangeMakers programme, which encourages employees to volunteer and make a positive impact. More than 30 passionate staff members rolled up their sleeves to help improve the SPCA’s facilities and offer hands-on support.
Adding their expertise to the day was K9 Academy Namibia, the country’s top canine training centre. Their team assisted with technical work such as drilling, grinding, and general repairs, while also donating a training voucher for any Capricorn employee who adopted a dog – a thoughtful gesture to support responsible pet ownership.
“Building bridges of trust between humans, dogs, and other animals is key in creating a harmonious world for all,” said Gavin Damon, owner and lead trainer at K9 Academy Namibia.
Volunteers were split into themed teams, each tackling different tasks with energy and heart:
• The Kennel Creatives gave the animal enclosures a cheerful makeover with fresh paint.
• The Wall Wizards took care of indoor areas, painting walls, kitchens, and doors.
• The Fix-It Force handled small but vital repairs like broken hinges and switches.
• The Shine Squad cleaned and cleared the outside areas, creating a safe and welcoming space.
Many employees also donated food and essential supplies to help the SPCA continue its daily care for the animals.
“This is what being a ChangeMaker is all about,” said Marlize Horn, Capricorn Group’s Chief Brand and Corporate Affairs Officer. “Being a Connector of Positive Change means showing up where it matters – with your hands, heart, and purpose.”
Silke van der Merwe, National Director of the SPCA, added: “A heartfelt thanks to the incredible team at Capricorn Group. Your dedicated ChangeMakers are creating a meaningful impact – not only for our animals but also for our staff. We deeply appreciate your unwavering commitment.”
The day was a true celebration of what’s possible when businesses and communities work hand in hand. Together, Capricorn Group and K9 Academy Namibia showed that kindness, collaboration, and shared purpose can lead to lasting change – one paw at a time.
