Capacity building for SDFN, NHAG members

The European Union (EU) and the affiliate Namibia Housing Action Group/Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (NHAG/SDFN) started a 3-year project this month to capacitate marginalised urban poor towards inclusive, participatory, and sustainable urban development.
Representatives from all 14 regions were present, including SDFN facilitators and second-tier leaders to foster new leaders within the federation, including women and youth.
The purpose of this 2-day workshop was to kick-start the EU project and to capacitate the leaders of the SDFN countrywide from the very beginning of the project about the activities planned with EU support. This includes strengthening the SDFN leadership by building a strong and inclusive second-tier leadership, negotiating for land and services for house construction and informal settlement upgrading, strategies about bottlenecks in community-led processes and to start activities towards digitalisation of savings and loan repayment.
These are just some of the activities of this EU-NHAG-SDFN project.
The facilitators thank the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic to Namibia for its substantial financial support to NHAG/SDFN and the hands-on cooperation by EU Project Manager Aron Hangula and colleagues at the EU Delegation in Windhoek.
