Facelift for visually and hearing impaired schools

Capricorn employees dedicated a day to giving back to the School for the Visually Impaired and the School of the Hearing Impaired by donating various items and equipment, carrying out renovations and doing fun activities with the learners. The event, which took place last Friday, brought together a group of more than 30 enthusiastic Changemakers from Capricorn Group and its subsidiaries Capricorn Asset Management and Bank Windhoek, who rolled up their sleeves to make a meaningful impact at the two schools. Activities included renovations (painting, interlocking and playground enhancements), creating lasting memories through games and arts and crafts, and learning sign language with the children. Before the event, employees of Capricorn Group responded to a request to donate exercise books, rulers, erasers, pens, glue, Mathematical sets, calculators, and toiletries. Among the donations, Capricorn Asset Management sponsored the donation of stationery and toiletries for 75 children at the school for the hearing impaired and contributed to the reinstalling of two toilets in the hall. The Group's Executive of Brand & Corporate Affairs, Marlize Horn, stated that the contribution from the group will go a long way in creating a more conducive learning environment for the learners, adding that “inclusivity is key to quality education, and we are proud to support the two schools with learning materials. Big difference “It touched my heart to see that we still have people who care enough to take from their pockets to support our learners. We are truly thankful. Capricorn Group, you don't know the difference this donation will make. Some of the learners came without any toiletries, and this donation will help them,” said Alice Bauleth, Principal of the Hearing Impaired School. During the donation drive, many employees went out of their way to purchase items for donation to the two schools. When they dropped their donations, the Bank Windhoek Operations Support & Properties in Possession team had this to say. “We believe in equality, and as a collective, we all benefit from extending support to the schools of the visually and hearing impaired. We stand behind those wonderful teachers committed to the expansion and growth of children, especially those with special needs, and we hope that our small contribution will help foster a more inclusive learning environment.” As a Connector of Positive Change, Capricorn Group is committed to giving back to the community through various philanthropic initiatives. The company's support of the two schools exemplifies its efforts to support inclusive education and literacy.
