Human Dreams aiming to support kids with special needs

Germany’s Deputy Head of Mission Dr. Andreas Goetze officially handed over a therapy house, which was financed through the micro-project funding of the German Embassy Windhoek last week.
Also present were Benita Herma and Andreas Herrle from the Namibian-German Foundation.
In 2021, the organisation Human Dreams Charity received a grant of N$420 000 to build a therapy house on the NGO’s premises in Brakwater. The house, which was built in a traditional round form with thatched roof, consists of a big room with kitchenette, a big bathroom and a storage room.
The aim is to give physically and mentally challenged children a safe haven and a retreat where they can receive treatment according to their special needs.
Since last year the organisation was able to build an additional house and is busy with a third one. Furthermore, a swimming pool was built, so that the children can get stimulated and their development is being enhanced.
All the construction activities are being implemented with the help of masons and bricklayers that are members of MSR – Men on the Side of the Road, an association that supports unemployed artisans from the informal economy.
The programme the organisation offers for these challenged children is an animal-assisted therapy. For this purpose, Human Dreams Charity keeps all sorts of animals on its farm, such as alpacas, ponies, donkeys, tortoises, dogs, chickens and goats, with which the children can interact.
Nicole Mtawa initially founded Human Dreams in Germany. With the help of donations, she was able to set up a child nursing home in Delhi/India in 2011 and a children’s village in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) with its own rehabilitation centre in 2015. At the beginning of 2020, she added a day care centre for single mothers with children in need of special care.
