Men’s conference in Swakop this weekend

The second edition of the Namibia National Men’s Conference takes place in Swakop on Friday (12 May) at the multipurpose hall from 17:00 to 22:00. The theme is “Stop suffering in silence and speak out for solution”.
Keynote speakers include Commissioner Nicklaus Kupembona, Benson Matali (Deputy Director: Ministry of Gender), Charles Uugwanga (Chief Legal Officer: Ministry of Justice), Bishop Lukas Katenda, Pastor Sem Abiatar, King Simon, D-Naff and others.
The conference aims to create a platform for men to discuss issues affecting them, such as suicide, mental health, and financial literacy, while promoting positive masculinity, and social behavioural change and encouraging men to take a stand against GBV, creating a platform for men to discuss community-based solutions.
Further, it also aims to equip men with an extensive understanding of GBV terminologies and the legal framework as well as educate men on how to cope with mental health, provide available alternatives and enlighten them to be accountable.
Speaking about the conference, the organisers and founder, local disk jockey DJ Munene, said, “We promise those that want to attend, that it will be a life-changing event. We will have a great time of men sharing life-changing ideas as well as building on matters that shape their lives. I call upon all men from all over the country to join us.”
He also added that the event will also address social challenges including gender-based violence, how to be a successful man in a challenging economy, as well as managing relationships in a manner that improves their influence.
The conference also features local artists like D-Naff, Martin Uukunde and others.
The inaugural conference was held on 17 September last year and was sponsored by Sanlam Namibia. It attracted hundreds of men from all walks of life.
