More rights for the disabled

Namibia has taken a decisive step towards inclusion with the official launch of the nationwide consultations on the draft Disability Act and National Disability Policy. The new draft law aims to give due recognition and protection to the rights and needs of people with disabilities.
"We must never forget that we are serving a group of people with special needs, a group of people who are struggling to move forward because of many obstacles such as discrimination and misconceptions," Royal ǀUiǀoǀoo, Deputy Minister for Marginalised Persons, said at the official launch on Wednesday, "I am convinced that the proposed legislation and the amended disability policy will bring about the changes that we really need in the labor market, in business, in universal design and in every other area of our society where change is needed. "
The national consultations and workshops on the draft law and policy will be conducted in all regions of Namibia to ensure that no person with a disability is left behind and that the needs and perspectives of all stakeholders are taken into account.
"We are confident that thanks to the efforts of the entire team, the bill and policy can be presented to Parliament by the end of the year," ǀUiǀoǀoo added.
