Pamper packages for pensioners

Toddlers visit the elderly
Around 600 elderly persons from four nursing homes in the capital recently received special little visitors, who not only handed out care and pampering packages, but also arms full of hugs and love.
About 40 children between four and seven years old from the Akademia PikkiePark and their teachers visited Eros Manor, Senior Park, Oude Rust and Auas Hills, where they handed over care packages to each resident and performed a 20-minute concert.
“The aim was to remind the elderly that they are not forgotten and to teach the children that everything does not always stay the same. The visit to the elderly filled the children's hearts with so much joy and gratitude, that PikkiePark's children came back with lots to tell their teacher,” Lizel Hohne of Akademia PikkiePark said.
“For the staff of PikkiePark it was heart-warming to see how the elderly enjoyed our short visit. We were saddened to learn that only around 25% of the elderly had received a visit from any loved ones in the last several months.
“Once again we realised how unbearable it must be to sit or lie down for hours, days, weeks even months waiting for a little love and care. Just think what a significant difference it can make in these longing hearts, when individuals decide to adopt and care for and/or visit, for example, a grandparent, when there is time.
“There is certainly no better moment than now, to make time and pay tribute to those who helped shape and build Namibia for us. Let's care and make a difference, like the elderly for PikkiePark's children, when they got up with a lot of effort and dressed up especially to give and receive our hugs.”
