All-around gymnasts tested in Kigali

Namibia’s junior and senior teams finished in fourth and fifth positions, respectively, out of 13 nations competing at the recent 18th African Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali.
On the overall individual junior standings after day one’s all-around competition, Peya Kashaka was placed ninth, Kayla Duchaine eleventh and Faiza Hamutenya 16th.
In the senior category, Emilia Ekandjo was placed 17th, Joy-Lana Kaboy 18th, Kenandjo Mupia 24th and Ngatangue Hambeka in the 26th position, with neither advancing to the finals.
Egypt (first), South Africa (second) and Tunisia kept Namibia off the podium in the junior team competition. On the senior team standings, the same three nations as well as Angola were ahead of the Namibians.
Kashaka, Ekandjo, Kenandjo and Haimbeka all represent Windhoek Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, while Duchaine and Hamutenya represent Elite Gymnastics Club and Kaboy is from Walvis Bay Gymnastics Club.
The touring squad expressed thanks to the Namibian National Olympic Committee for its assistance to make the trip possible.
