Anglers geared for Zone 5 championship

Seven teams were selected to represent Namibia this year.

The Namibian Freshwater Bank Angling Association last Saturday announced its national teams to represent the country during Zone 5 competitions later this year.
The teams include the Colts as well as Federation women's and men's teams. The Juniors and Colts will take on their South African counterparts at Hardap Dam, north west of Mariental, from 29 June to 6 July 2024.
The national senior men and women, masters men as well as the Federation women and men will travel to South Africa later this year where they will challenge the South African Proteas.
The elite competition takes place from 16 to 22 November at the picturesque Nile Dam outside Mokopane in Limpopo province. Carp, catfish and yellow fish of above average size is expected at the Nile Dam where conservation comes first and a strict catch-and-release rule applies.
The selected anglers:
National senior men’s team: Leon Diedericks, Henk Louw, Willem Heunis, Marius Maree, Francois Badenhorst, Wentzel Barnard, Stefan du Preez.
National men’s masters team: Ian Copley, Ronnie Meyer, Herbert Kuhlmann, Johan van Zyl, Johan Vermaak, Paul Bekker, Henk Engelbrecht.
National women's team: Nola Maritz, Petro van Zyl, Ina Muir, Carol Stinton, Lani Meyer.
National juniors (ages 14-20): Joachem Louw, Francois du Toit, Markus le Roux, Jorick Muir, Drihan Smith, De Wet van Niekerk, Lee-Ancke Loubser, Henk Louw (captain), Andries Blaauw (team manager).
Federation A senior men’s team: Gawie van Wyk, André van Zyl, Rhyan Smith, Gerhard Vermeulen, Carl Maass, Willem Blaauw, Jacques Nell.
Federation women’s team: Anina Barnard, Hester Coetzee, Marelyn van Zyl, Alicia Bardenhorst, Pina Gubiani.
