The Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool’s Affiespark was buzzing with excitement over the weekend as it hosted the Namibian Private Schools Organisation (Napso) regional athletics competition.
The event featured athletes from different age categories, ranging from under 7 to under 17, showcasing their skills and talent in track and field.
WAP athletes dominated in most of the competitions, putting on an impressive display of sportsmanship and athleticism. The competition was fierce, with numerous NAPSO records being broken in events such as high jump, discus, javelin, shot put, long jump, and sprinting.
Parents came out in large numbers to support their children and cheer on the participants, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere.
The event saw participation from several regions, including Berg-Op Academy (Okahandja), Tsumeb Gymnasium, Walvis Bay Private School, Elnatan (Stampriet), Gobabis Gymnasium, Edugate (Otjiwarongo), Keetmanshoop Private School and Moria Private School (Outjo).
Each school brought their A-game, with athletes pushing themselves to their limits to achieve their personal bests, state their case for higher honours and to make their schools proud.
The event’s success would not have been possible without the support of generous sponsors and contributors such as Wimpy, Coca-Cola, North-West University, Spar, Channel 7, Securitas, Nictus, and My Zone of Namibia Media Holdings, providing resources and funding.
Overall, the Napso regional athletics competition showcased the incredible talent and dedication of young athletes from private schools across the country.
The event provided a platform for learners to compete and excel in their respective sports, but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among participants.
The Napso competition was not just about winning medals or breaking records – it was about coming together as a community to celebrate the power of sport and the boundless potential of young athletes.
