Coach Eichab organises fun day
Wanaheda Royal Community hosted a successful fun day to unite families and the hood through football matches and other activities.
Former Khomas Nampol Football Club coach Fortune Eichab was part of the Wanaheda Royal Community Fun Day on Saturday, bringing together over residents of Wanaheda for a day of connection and play.
“The aim of the fun day was to unite families and the hood by creating a safe, inclusive space for all ages.
“The event featured a mix of sports, traditional games and popular TV game challenges, designed to celebrate culture, encourage teamwork and strengthen community bonds,” said Eichab.
His aim was to create something good for the family and the hood.
“Seeing children, parents and elders all playing together showed us we achieved that.”
The organisers thank any sponsors, volunteers and all community members who participated.
The event had about 150 residents together supporting each other's stalls.
Eichab revealed that all the stalls sold out their goodies.
In total, 20 football teams and three netball teams were part of the event.
Circle FC won the football competition after beating Saam Skraap in the final, while the netball competition was won by VD Girls.
Youth soccer featured five football clubs, and it was won by Baller Boys.
“This is something one can be proud of, given what it has brought to the community.
“It is something one can make regular as it keeps many off the streets and encourages togetherness.
“It also gives an opportunity for young football players to showcase their talent," said Eichab.
Fortune Eichab, who is now a police officer by profession, formerly coached Tura Magic before joining Khomas Nampol.
He, however, parted ways with the football club towards the end of the season.
“I am still a football coach and will see where it will take me, even if things did not go well at the club.
“I remain passionate about the game of football, and it is for these reasons I am organising these kinds of things.”
