Epukiro club’s challenge set for Gobabis
Excitement is building across the Omaheke Region as riders, horse owners and racing fans prepare for one of the country's most anticipated weekends in Gobabis.
The Miss Namibia Epukiro Horse Racing Club Challenge Cup is the icing on the cake of many events taking place in the town this weekend.
Miss Namibia Beauty Pageant and the Meat and Beer Festival are among the top attractions, with the Gobabis Turf Club also coming alive with a top horse-racing competition.
Speaking about the event, one of the organisers, Iritjiua Murangi, is adamant about the excitement this competition will bring.
“I believe that the town of Gobabis will provide and bring entertainment at the highest level.
“This is going to be massive. We just want to invite the fans to come in their numbers and witness top horse-racing at the highest of levels,” said Murangi.
“Organised by the Epukiro Horse Racing Club, this annual competition celebrates not only speed and skill but also the rich horse-racing tradition that has united communities for generations,” Murangi added.
Several categories in store
Horses will compete in several categories, including Juvenile, Nambred Maiden, Graduation, Import Maiden/Graduation, Import Open, and other distance races, each promising fierce competition and exciting finishes.
“The event is more than a sporting competition because families, friends and visitors from across Namibia will gather to enjoy a festive atmosphere filled with food stalls, refreshing drinks, entertainment and local vendors.”
Murangi has further assured those travelling to the event that security will remain tight at the gate in order to ensure that the safety of people is first.
He also urges members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid getting into unnecessary trouble.
“Yes, I think people must refrain from things such as drinking and driving and all the things which are not good for their safety.
“All I can say is that Gobabis will provide entertainment and people must be ready for top action,” Murangi noted.
