FNB backs Kamikaze Tournament with N$228 140
First National Bank (FNB) Namibia handed over sponsorship worth N$228 140 to the Kamikaze Inline Hockey Club yesterday ahead of this weekend’s annual FNB Kamikaze Inline Hockey Tournament at the DTS Sports Club in Windhoek.
Sanctioned by the Namibia Inline Hockey Association (NIHA), the tournament starts today and runs until Sunday. The competition brings together inline hockey teams from Windhoek, Swakopmund and Otjiwarongo to compete for top honours.
According to the organisers, participation has more than doubled from 70 to 145 players over the past four years. The players range in age from five to 55, reflecting the tournament’s appeal across different age groups.
FNB’s contribution forms part of its continued support for youth development, discipline and community engagement through sport.
Beyond the rink
Speaking at the handover ceremony, FNB Namibia head of investment Ziggy Muinjo praised Kamikaze Inline Hockey’s three-decade contribution to the growth of the sport in the country.
He said investment in sport helps young athletes develop confidence, teamwork and lifelong skills beyond the rink.
“This sponsorship reflects our continued belief in the power of sport to bring people together, develop young talent and create opportunities that extend well beyond the rink,” he said.
Kamikaze Inline Hockey sponsorship and advertising coordinator Gunther Gutzeit expressed excitement ahead of the tournament and thanked FNB for its continued backing.
“We are very grateful for this partnership. It’s been going on for four years now, and without the dedication and support from FNB, there are a lot of things we would not be able to achieve to grow the sport to where it is today,” he said.
“We’ve got a good Kamikaze sizzling kitchen with good food. You can come and enjoy some world-class hockey action,” he added.
Organisers have also arranged live music, food stalls and family entertainment alongside the action on the rink.
