FNB Dolphin respond with emphatic home win
FNB Dolphin delivered a strong response on home ground with a 56-14 victory over FNB Rehoboth in their Namibia Rugby Union Premier League matchday three clash in Swakopmund on Saturday.
The result sees Dolphin rebound from last weekend’s heavy defeat, improving their record to two wins from three matches in the opening phase of the season.
After finishing the single-round 2025 premier league with just two log points, the Swakopmund team has impressed by climbing to their current fourth spot out of nine teams, with 12 log points from two double-bonus point wins.
Dolphin controlled proceedings from the outset, scoring several tries and converting most of them to build a decisive lead. The home side capitalised on errors and maintained pressure across the field, leaving little opportunity for a comeback.
Dolphin coach Hauta Veii said the performance reflected a collective effort from the squad.
“We are very proud of the boys. They put on a good show and this should encourage us for the rest of the Premier League,” he said.
No individual stood out above the rest, with the team delivering an all-round balanced performance, he added.
“All the players played well. You cannot highlight just one – they all played with flair today," he noted.
The result will significantly lift the morale in the Dolphin camp following their heavy loss to FNB Wanderers in Windhoek the previous weekend, and serves as proof of their ability to compete when executing their game plan.
The Dolphin try-scorers were fullback Zaino van Wyk, wing Antonio Titus, centres Jerome Immanuel and Ronaldo Diergaardt, fly-half Demashu Maya, locks Richard Kasimbu (2) and Naftali Ndakolo as well as flank Vijanda Tjikotche. Van Wyk added two conversions and a penalty and wing Luciano Geigob landed two conversions.
Rehoboth’s one try by wing Dolano Vries and three penalties by fly-half Coburn Claasen was not enough to earn them their first log point for the season, as the remain at the bottom of the nine teams.
Rehoboth coach Brian Titus said his side would need to reassess after the loss, but acknowledged the opposition’s performance.
“We do not take anything away from Dolphin. They played well and capitalised on our mistakes,” he said.
Titus confirmed that Rehoboth will return to the drawing board ahead of their next fixture.
Rehoboth is scheduled to face FNB Grootfontein at home in two weeks.
Dolphin will look to build on this result when they travel to face FNB Kudus in Walvis Bay in their next outing.
